• Who created/invented SMS?
• • There were several versions in the press in the past. The GSM/SMG leadership and involved persons reviewed the situation in 2009. They came to the unanimous conclusion, that the initial SMS concept was developed in the Franco-German co-operation for GSM in 1984 and introduced into standardization in February 1985. They clarified also the contributions of standardization and issued a statement.

  • At the end of 2012 BBC hat an interview with Matti Makkonen. He confirmed that he had not created or invened SMS. This was confirmed by the creators of SMS, Friedhelm Hillebrand, Finn Trosby, Kevin Holley and Ian Harris in the download.
